Coding in the age of AI - image of a child and an adult looking at a device

Why learning to code still matters (especially in the age of AI)

With AI popping up everywhere you might be wondering: Does my child still need to learn to code?

The short answer? Yes. Now more than ever.

Even as tools like ChatGPT transform how we live and work, coding remains a vital skill. Not because every child will grow up to be a software engineer but because coding helps them think logically, solve problems, and understand the technology shaping their world.

In fact, coding is becoming as foundational as reading and writing. Here’s what the research tells us:
🔹 The World Economic Forum lists technological literacy among the top skills needed for the future
🔹 The OECD recognises computational thinking as a foundational skill for school and life – and it’s best developed from an early age (even at the age of 3)
🔹 Research from GOV.UK shows that 90% of jobs will require some element of digital skills within the next 20 years

Even the most powerful AI still needs someone who understands how to guide, test, and improve what it produces. That person? Could be your child, if they start building those skills now.

Why age 3 isn’t too young to start coding

At Looparoo, we specialise in helping children aged 3–7 build their first coding skills through play, creativity and story.

We don’t teach coding with dry screens and syntax. We teach it through:

  • Storytelling and fun missions
  • Problem-solving adventures with our fun Looparoo characters – Pixel, Lunar and the gang
  • Challenges that boost confidence, focus, and curiosity

Our aim? To help kids develop a healthy, joyful relationship with technology, one that grows with them in an AI-powered world.

Whether your child becomes a coder, a designer, or simply a confident digital citizen, Looparoo is here to give them the best start.
